January 8, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that right wing Miroslav Zalesak has been selected to Team PlanetUSA in the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic to be played Monday, February 9th in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Van Andel Arena.
In his third season with Cleveland, Zalesak is tied for second in AHL with 42 points. His 20 goals are third in the AHL and his 22 assists are tied for fourth in the league. With 16 points on the power play, Zalesak is tied for second among all AHL scorers. His 7 power play goals are tied for third.
The 6'0", 200-pound Slovak set a Cleveland Barons franchise high this season by recording a point in 9 consecutive games for the Barons. By doing so, he surpassed the franchise record of 8 games set by both Mike Craig and Chad Wiseman in the 2001-02 season. Currently, Zalesak has registered a point in 13 out of the last 14 games for the Barons. In addition, Zalesak is the franchise leader with 131 points and 69 goals.
Last season with the Barons, the fourth-year pro set career highs with 27 goals and 22 assists. Zalesak also gained his first NHL experience by appearing in 10 games with the San Jose Sharks. Zalesak scored his first career NHL goal on his first career NHL shot against the St. Louis Blues on March 11th.
Zalesak is the sixth member of the Barons to be selected to the AHL All-Star team in franchise history. In 2002, the Barons were represented by Jonathan Cheechoo, Mike Craig, and Ryan Kraft. Last season, Niko Dimitrakos and Jim Fahey were selected to play.
Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone be calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
