Suglobov Named to PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team

Albany N.Y. – The American Hockey League announced today that Albany River Rats right wing Aleksander Suglobov has been selected to play for the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars at the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic to be played at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 9th.

Suglobov, 21, is currently on recall with the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils and made his National Hockey League debut Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers. The 6-0, 175-pounder ranked second on the River Rats with 21 (10-11-21) points in 26 games at the time of his recall. Suglobov remains tied for second among all American Hockey League rookies with four power play goals, tied for fourth with the 10 goals overall and stands eighth among newcomers with his point total during the 2003-04 campaign.

The native of Elektrosal, Russia was drafted by the New Jersey Devils with their third choice (56th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and split last season between Neftekhimik and Yaroslavl of the Russia Hockey League.

The 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic gets underway on Sunday, February 8, with the 2004 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00pm (ET). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00pm (ET) on Monday, February 9, and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.

The Albany River Rats, in their 11th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
