Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - Three home runs, including two in the first inning, powered the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 5-3 win over the St. Paul Saints, to secure both a series split and season series split.
Bubba Thompson crushed the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead and the Storm Chasers led the rest of the way. A hit batter and walk put two runners on with two outs in the first for Nate Eaton, who crushed a first-pitch home run to left field, a three-run shot for a 4-0 lead.
Starter Max Castillo struck out two in a scoreless first inning, but surrendered one run in the second and two in the third inning, as the Saints brought the score within one at a 4-3 margin.
Castillo kept St. Paul off the board the rest of his start, working through the fifth inning to earn his fifth win of the season and second victory this week, while striking out eight to tie a season high.
Behind Castillo, the combination of Steven Cruz, James McArthur and Jonathan Heasley contributed 4.0 hitless and scoreless innings while striking out five, for 13 strikeouts as a staff, Omaha's fourth straight double-digit strikeout game.
Edward Olivares added a run of insurance in the fifth inning with a solo home run, his third with the Chasers this season for a 5-3 lead that held to be final.
Thompson finished the game with two hits, while Devin Mann drew three walks and Clay Dungan drew two, with the offense combining to draw eight in the victory.
Following an off day Monday, the Storm Chasers resume this two-week homestand on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT against the Louisville Bats at Werner Park.
