Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game homestand with a 7-1 win over the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Wednesday night.
Starting pitcher Adam Kloffenstein (2-0) put together his best Triple-A outing in the win. The right-handed pitcher tossed 5.0 shutout innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven batters. Kloffenstein allowed just two runners to reach scoring position in his start.
The Memphis offense gave Kloffenstein six runs of support in the second inning, all with two outs. Second baseman Irving Lopez brought home the first two runs with a double down the right-field line. RBIs from left fielder Matt Koperniak, center fielder Lars Nootbaar and designated hitter continued the scoring. The Redbirds brought 11 batters to the plate in the inning.
Nootbaar, in an MLB Rehab Appearance, went 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI and a walk. Koperniak and Dunn each recorded a 3-for-5 night.
The Redbirds (63-65) return to AutoZone Park on Thursday, Aug. 31 to continue a six-game homestand at 6:45p.m. CDT against the Gwinnett Stripers.
