Thaiss Walks-Off in the 10th, Bees Win 4-3
August 30, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Matt Thaiss delivered a walk-off single to give the Salt Lake Bees a 4-3 win in 10 innings over the Reno Aces.
The two teams entered extra innings tied up at 3, but in the top half of the inning Bees reliever Jeremy Rhoades was able to strand the extra innings runner at second and escape the extra inning without any damage. In the bottom half of the inning the Bees loaded the bases for Thaiss who lined the first pitch of the at-bat into right field to score Stephen McGee and give the Bees the victory.
Jose Suarez turned in a fine outing for the Bees allowing only two hits while striking out seven. Rhoades (6-4) got the win for the Bees with the scoreless final frame. Bees pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts as the team pushed its franchise-record for strikeouts in a season to 1130. The win gives the Bees 70 for the season, clinching a winning record for the second consecutive year.
Salt Lake and Reno finish their three-game series with a Thirsty Thursday game at 7:05 p.m. before finishing the season with a four-game series beginning on Friday against the Fresno Grizzlies.
