Storm Get Revenge, Defeat Cyclones 3-2
December 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) Toledo Storm (13-10-1) inflicted revenge against the
Cincinnati Cyclones (13-11-2) on Friday night, as a pair of peculiar Storm
goals in the 2nd period boosted the Red and White to a 3-2 victory in front
of 3,976 at Toledo Sports Arena. The win ended a three-game losing streak
for Toledo, the longest streak of the season. The box score from tonight's
game can be viewed here
The Cyclones were able to cash in early once again, as Greg Stewart wristed
a shot past Storm goaltender Dominic Vicari (W, 28 saves) at the 2:53 mark
of the opening frame to put Cincinnati up 1-0 through one. Similar to a
night ago, the Storm were out-shot in the opening frame 13-8. The Storm would regain the momentum in the second period, however, as a pair
of quirky plays in the Cincinnati zone led to a pair of Toledo goals. After
a shot rebounded off the back glass, the puck deflected off a body and came
to rest on the goal line where Jamie Tardif easily deposited it in the net
at 13:02 to tie things at 1. Then, exactly 2 minutes later, a Chris Blight
shot careened off Cincinnati netminder Chad Collins (L, 31 saves) landed
behind him and then rolled into the net. Blight's fifth goal of the season,
an unassisted tally, propelled the Storm to a 2-1 lead heading into the
second intermission. The Storm added to their lead at the 15:01 mark of the third, when Gerry
Burke beat Collins with a blast from the blue line to put Toledo up 3-1. It
proved to be the game winner as the Cyclones pulled within one when
Jean-Michel Daoust knocked home a rebound to pull within a goal at 16:53.
Cincinnati pulled Collins in the final minute in an effort to tie it, but
the Storm were able to hold tight as they picked up the 3-2 victory. The
Storm claimed victory in 10 of 12 games played at Toledo Sports Arena, tied
for the most home victories among all ECHL teams. The Storm will host one more game at Toledo Sports Arena before the
Christmas holiday, as tomorrow night they welcome in the Johnstown Chiefs at
7:35pm. Saturday's game will also be the annual Teddy Bear Toss presented
by Buckeye Cable System, facing-off at 7:35pm. Great tickets are still
available by calling 419-691-0200 or online at the all-new ToledoStorm.com.
Fans can hear all the action of the game LIVE at www.toledostorm.com or
along the B2 Network. Coverage of the game begins 15 minutes prior to the
opening face-off. Toledo Storm Hockey...Great Team, Great Time!
