December 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
ESTERO, Fla. - Goaltender Davis Parley turned away all 29 shots registering his first shutout of the season to backstop the South Carolina Stingrays to a 2-0 win over the Florida Everblades, who had their six-game win streak snapped before 5,826 at Germain Arena.
"It was our best win of the year," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "Davis was superb in net tonight and everyone competed hard. We capitalized on our chances and the guys bought into the systems that we have in place."
After a scoreless first period, South Carolina (14-11-2, 30 points) started the scoring on the power play at 17:05 of the second period on a hard slapshot from Marc Busenburg beating goaltender David Shantz, who was named the Everblades ECHL All-Star representative. Busenburg's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Peter Szabo and Scott Romfo.
Florida (18-8-0, 36 points) outshot South Carolina 19-17 through 40 minutes, however Parley and the Stingrays took a 1-0 lead into the third period.
Josh Anderson converted on a pass from Matt Stefanishion at 15:46 to put the game away. Szabo also picked up his second helper of the game.
Florida pulled Shantz in the final minute, but couldn't solve Parley.
South Carolina went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Florida failed to convert on seven opportunities with the man advantage. Shots were tied 29-29.
The Stingrays wrap-up their road trip in Florida at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday against the Everblades at Germain Arena in Estero.
