Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - What a night for the Pensacola Ice Pilots as they won back-to-back games for the first time this season, beating the Texas Wildcatters 7-4 at the Hangar on Friday night.
The Ice Pilots won their 7th game of the season and the third on home ice. The Ice Pilots and Wildcatters swill face each other again on Saturday at 7:05 pm at the Hangar as the Blue and Gold try for three in a row.
The Ice Pilots played an inspired game right from the opening whistle, out- working and out-hustling their opponents throughout. It was a total team effort with every player contributing to the victory.
Travis Lisabeth got the Ice Pilots off to a flying start 1:38 into the opening period when he scored from Mike Wirll. After Texas tied the game, the dynamic duo went to work again and it was 2-1 when Lisabeth got his second of the contest from Wirll. Just a short time later, Adam Taylor finished off a breakaway and it was a 3-1 lead for the Ice Pilots after 20 minutes.
In the middle stanza, Texas came out firing, but the Ice Pilots turned away most of their chances except for one goal that eluded Ben Gray it was 3-2 heading home in the third period.
But the turning point of the game was at the 37-second mark of the third when Rob Rankin scored on a sharp angle shot to make it 4-2. Then just over four minutes later, Dan Sullivan went to work with is first of two when he connected on a great pass from Nikki Korovkin and it was 5-2.
After Texas made it 5-3 on a questionable shorthanded goal that appeared to not cross the goal line, the Ice Pilots extended the advantage back to three goals when Sullivan got his second. The Wildcatters added one more (6-4) before Greg Watson fired a shot into the empty net to make it 7-4.
Mike Wirll had three assists while Dan Sullivan had three points. Defenseman Jesse Baraniuk, forwards Mario Joly and Travis Lisabeth were all plus four in the game. Goaltender Ben Gray won his second start in three tries.
The Ice Pilots penalty killing was outstanding stopping the Wildcatters power play on five attempts. The Wildcatters out shot Pensacola 33-25.
