Machesney Recalled To Hershey

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL announced that goaltender Daren Machesney has been recalled by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
The call-up is the first for the rookie Machesney, who is under contract to the Washington Capitals after being selected by Washington in the fifth round, 143rd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. A 20-year-old native of Lambeth, Ontario, Machesney has a 2-5-0 record with one shutout this season with the Stingrays, a 3.24 goals-against average and .878 save percentage. The 6-foot and 185-pound Machesney joined South Carolina this season after playing three years for the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League including a 28-17-3 record in 2005-06 in 49 games, with a 3.03 goals-against average and .908 save percentage.
Machesney becomes the fifth South Carolina player to be called up to the AHL in 2006-07, following Marc Busenburg, Matt Stefanishion, Jamie Fraser and Kyle Wilson, who remains with Hershey.
The Stingrays get back into action tonight at 7:30 p.m. against the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.
