December 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (18-8-0) saw their season-high six-game winning streak come to an end as the South Carolina Stingrays (14-11-2) earned a 2-0 victory on Friday night at Germain Arena behind the 29 saves by goaltender Davis Parley.
After a scoreless, but action filled first period, the Stingrays notched the only goal of the second period, tallying a late power play marker. Marc Busenburg let a shot rip from the blue line that snuck through traffic and past Everblades net minder David Shantz inside the right post with 2:55 remaining in the frame. Peter Szabo and Scot Romfro assisted on Busenburg's fourth goal of the season.
Holding a 1-0 lead entering the third period, the Stingrays held the Everblades in check and came up big by killing off three Florida power plays, including 1:26 of 5-on-3 time midway through the period. The Stingrays the added some insurance when Josh Anderson completed a 3-on-1 rush by chipping his third goal of the season under the crossbar from the right circle with 4:16 remaining in regulation.
Shantz saw his personal four-game winning streak come to an end after allowing the two goals on 29 shots, dropping his record to 9-3-0, and Parley earned his first shutout of the season with his 29 save effort to improve his record to 12-7-2.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night 0-for-7, while the Stingrays converted on one of their four opportunities.
With the win, the Stingrays tied the season series 1-1-0 and won their second straight.
The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, return to the ice on Saturday, December 23 when they host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena.
