Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and the Manitoba Moose, are pleased to announce that rookie Goaltender Julien Ellis has been selected to the 2007 ECHL All-Star Team. Ellis will represent the Salmon Kings and the National Conference on January 16 and 17 at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho. This is the first time a Salmon Kings goaltender has been selected.

Ellis, 20, was assigned to the Salmon Kings by the Moose while under contract with the Canucks on October 31, 2006. The native of Sorel, PQ has played 16 games for Victoria, logging 912 minutes, snatching 541 saves, and holding a 7-9-0 record.

"We are excited for Julien and his opportunity to showcase his skills in a league-wide event," said Dan Belisle, Salmon Kings Vice-President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "He is very deserving of this selection, as he challenges himself and his teammates game in and game out, and can ignite the crowd with his athleticism."

The 6-foot, 177-lb netminder boasts three games with 50 or more saves this season, and captured a 0.971 save percentage in a 3-1 victory over Long Beach on December 9th. Between November 4th and November 16th, he earned four straight wins as starting goaltender-a Salmon Kings record.

Ellis spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Shawinigan Cataractes and tallied 88 wins, eight shut outs, and an overall goals against average of 2.85, in 173 games. In 2004-05 alone, he posted a 27-21-11 record, four shut outs, and a 0.921 save percentage.

The starting lineups are determined in voting by National Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 10 teams having a representative.

Supporting Ellis on the frontlines will be forwards Troy Bodie (Stockton), Rane Carnegie (Bakersfield), Kevin Croxton (Alaska), Luke Curtin (Fresno), Todd Griffith (Bakersfield), Nathan Martz (Stockton), Scott May (Phoenix), Tyler Mosienko (Las Vegas), Derek Nesbitt (Idaho), Julian Talbot (Alaska), T.J. Trevelyan (Long Beach), and Francis Wathier (Idaho), and backing up the blueline will be Beau Geisler (Stockton), Darrell Hay (Idaho), Jason Krischuk (Las Vegas), Dave Pszenyczny (Phoenix) Andy Sertich (Utah), and Tom Walsh (Fresno). Ellis is joined by Devan Dubnyk (Stockton) and Mike McKenna (Las Vegas) in between the pipes.

Ellis and the Victoria Salmon Kings face Phoenix in round two of the two-game series tomorrow at the U.S. Airways Center, and wrap up their 14-day road trip. The puck drops at 7:11 (MT).
