Biloxi, MS - The South Carolina Stingrays got power play goals by Cail MacLean and Marty Guerin and a game tying goal by Trent Campbell, but they fell in the shootout for the first time this season, 4-3 to the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"We played hard, and I'm very proud of us," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "In the situation we were in, against a good conference opponent, I am very happy with the point. Very happy."

In the first period it was the Mississippi Sea Wolves that struck first when Marek Kvapil got his third goal of the season from Jason Tejchma and Pat Oliveto at 7:10. The Rays tied things up ten minutes later when Cail MacLean got his tenth goal of the season from Trent Campbell and Nate Kiser, a power play goal at 17:06.

The second period saw the Stingrays take their first lead of the game, when Marty Guerin one-timed a pass from Pierre-Luc O'Brien behind Ryan Munce while on the power play. The goal came at 14:23 from O'Brien and Campbell. But late in the period Travis Lisabeth tied the game up at two, and just eight seconds later Ryan Menei gave the Sea Wolves the lead.

In the third period Campbell scored his sixth goal of the season to tie the game up at 3:04 from Mike Gabinet, making the score 3-3. It remained that way through regulation, as well as through overtime.

In the shootout the Sea Wolves scored on their first attempt. O'Brien was able to tie things up at one after the second round. It wasn't until the fifth round that Lisabeth scored against Josh Johnson to seal the victory 4-3.

The winning goaltender was Ryan Munce who stopped 26 of 29 shots in regulation and overtime, and four of five in the shootout. The losing goaltender was Johnson who stopped 34 of 37 shots in regulation and overtime, and three of five in the shootout.

The Stingrays added a new player before the game by signing forward Phil Gianfrancesco. The 22 year old Gianfrancesco was playing with the Fayetteville Fire Antz of the Southern Professional Hockey League prior to being called by the Rays. The Toronto, ONT native is in his second professional season.
