Published on January 8, 2008 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Jean-Michel
Daoust of the Cincinnati Cyclones is the CCM TACKS ECHL Player
of the Month for December.
He won the award in November
and is the first two-time winner since 2000-01 and only the fourth since
the league began presenting the award in 1996-97 to win twice in one
season. The other two time winners are Andrew Williamson of Toledo (January
and February 2001), John Spoltore of Louisiana (October 1999 and February
2000) and Jamey Hicks of Birmingham (December 1997 and January 1998).
The 24-year-old Daoust led the ECHL in December with 14 goals, including
seven power-play goals, a shorthand goal and two game-winning goals. He
tied for third in December with 20 points in 13 games while helping
Cincinnati go 12-1-1 to remain atop the North Division.
After starting the month with two points (1g-1a) in his first two games, he
was held off the score sheet in a 2-1 win over division-rival Elmira on
Dec. 7. Daoust responded by scoring in each of the Cyclones remaining 10
games in December and extended the streak to 12 games in January.
He registered back-to-back hat tricks in an 8-2 win against Johnstown on
Dec. 16 and a 5-2 win against Wheeling on Dec. 19 in which he had a
season-high two power-play goals. After scoring the game winner with a
power-play goal on Dec. 21 and playing one game for Rockford in the
American Hockey League, Daoust closed out the month scoring five points in
three games.
The 5-foot-7 and 170-pound Daoust leads the ECHL with 26 goals and 49
points while his five game-winning goals tie him for the league lead and
his 11 power-play goals rank second.
The Valleyfield, Quebec native had 62 points (32g-30a) and 63 penalty
minutes in 71 regular season games and eight points (3g-5a) and eight
penalty minutes in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Cyclones in 2006-07.
He played his rookie season in 2005-06 in the United Hockey League, which
ceased operations after the 2006-07 season, and had 65 points (30g-35a) and
73 penalty minutes in 70 regular season games and 11 points (7g-4a) and
eight penalty minutes in 18 playoff games with Danbury.
He played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he
had 276 points (104g-172a) and 361 penalty minutes in 272 regular season
games and 62 points (21g-41a) and 63 penalty minutes in 50 playoff games
with Hull and Gatineau.
