Mississippi's Munce Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ryan Munce of the Mississippi Sea Wolves is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec.31-Jan. 6.

The Mississauga, Ontario native was 4-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 0.99 and a save percentage of .973 to help the Sea Wolves have their longest winning streak of the season and close the gap on Charlotte (13-13-4), which has a one-point lead on Mississippi (13-19-3).

After making 45 saves in a 5-2 win against Florida on Jan. 1, the 6-foot-2 and 185-pound Munce started three games in three days posting a shutout and allowing only one goal in each of the other two games. After making 28 saves in a 4-1 win against Trenton on Jan. 4, he recorded his second shutout of the season stopping 36 shots in a 1-0 win at Gwinnett on Jan. 5 and then closed out the week with 34 saves in a 2-1 overtime win against Trenton on Jan. 6.

The 22 year old is 5-0-0 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 0.80 and a save percentage of .979 in his last five starts. He is 8-2-0 with a goals-against average of 1.98 and a save percentage of .950 in 10 games and is tied for second in the league with two shutouts.

Selected in the third round (82nd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and under NHL contract to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Munce has also played in the American Hockey League this season where he is 2-6-0 with a 2.99 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in nine games with Norfolk.

Munce has played in the ECHL each of his first four professional seasons and is 49-29-10 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.74 and a save percentage of .918 in 96 games with Bakersfield, Johnstown, Mississippi and Reading.

He played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League where he was 55-56-14 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.97 and a save percentage of .912 in 136 games for Sarnia from 2002-05, and in 2003 he helped Canada capture the gold medal at the Under-18 World Junior Championships.
