CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers are pleased to announce they have partnered with Sutter Home Family Vineyards to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a local Charlotte family.

The Checkers, along with Sutter Home, plan to raise $60,000 to help build a home for a deserving Charlotte family. This fundraiser will coincide with the inaugural Habitat for Humanity Night on April 4th as the Checkers battle the South Carolina Stingrays in the team's last regular season game.

"The Checkers are excited to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte and Sutter Home for the inaugural event and of building a home," said Checkers President, Jeff Longo, "We're honored to be able to partner with Habitat for Humanity on a project of this magnitude and are tremendously grateful to Sutter Home whose support is an integral part of making this project a reality. Our organization is proud to bring three organizations together to help make a difference in the community."

Sutter Home will advertise the event on the necks of their wine bottles which can be found throughout Charlotte area retail stores. Fans are encouraged to go to their local retail store to purchase a bottle of wine and mail in their capsule. For every capsule received, $1 will be donated to the overall goal. The mailing address for the donations will be located on the wine neckers.

"We are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with the Checkers and Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte," said Wendy Nyberg, Senior Director of Marketing for Sutter Home. "It is not only a great partnership with a company that makes dreams come true for people, but it also means that we are a part of something that will mean much more to the recipients of this house. As a family-owned company, we understand the importance of family and being able to give someone in need a place to live is immeasurable."

The partnership will not only include funding for the home of a local family, but also volunteer help from Checkers players who are dedicated to helping those in need.

"Habitat for Humanity values the commitment of both Sutter Home and the Checkers to improve the lives of families in Charlotte," said Bert Green, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte. "Through the Checkers involvement with Habitat Charlotte, the players are setting a great example of how we all can work hand in hand to create a positive environment for a family to thrive."

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Jan. 10 against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
