Chiefs Trade For Tough Winger

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have traded left wing Michael Cohen to the Pensacola Ice Pilots in exchange for left wing Mike Sgroi.

"Sgroi is someone that will help our team immediately. He has size, strong physical presence and is well known for his toughness. He can also contribute offensively for this team," said Chiefs Head Coach Ian Herbers.

Sgroi, 29, has played in 26 games for the Ice Pilots this season, scoring 12 goals and 22 points along with 65 PIM. The 6'5, 230 LBS native of Toronto, Ontario and Orlando, FL has spent the majority of his career in the AHL between stops in Wilkes/Barre Scranton, Albany, Binghamton, Syracuse and Utah. In 189 career AHL games Sgroi has 12 goals, 22 points and 608 PIM.

Sgroi has also played in the UHL with Rockford, Quad City and Elmira and the ECHL with New Orleans, Lexington, Wheeling, Toledo and Idaho. In all, Sgroi has played in 387 professional games scoring 56 goals, 114 points and 1,307 PIM. In the off season Sgroi is a professional mixed martial arts fighter.

The Chiefs are back in action Friday night when they travel to Elmira. Saturday, they visit Reading. Both game games at 7:00 p.m.

The Chiefs are back on War Memorial ice on Friday, January 18 when they host the Dayton Bomber at 7:00 p.m. It is guaranteed win night! If the Chiefs lose the game all fans in attendance will receive a voucher to a game to be determined.
