Florida's Callander Named In Glas Co, Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Florida rookie center Preston Callander is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 31-Jan. 6.

The 5-foot-11 and 181-pound Callander had eight points (4g-4a) and a plus-minus rating of +5 as the Everblades went 2-1-0 to improve to 19-11-4 and move into a tie for third place with South Carolina (20-11-1), four points behind second-place Gwinnett (21-8-3).

After registering an assist in a 5-2 loss at Mississippi on Jan. 1, the 27 year old had his first hat trick and first game-winning goal as well as a career-high four points in a 6-3 win against South Carolina on Jan. 4. The following night he scored a goal and had career bests with two assists and a plus-minus rating of +3 in a 7-2 win against South Carolina.

Signed by the Everblades on Dec. 17, the Regina, Saskatchewan native has 11 points (6g-5a) and 13 penalty minutes in eight games. The past two seasons Callander played in Germany for Wolfsburg and in 2006-07 he was second on the team with 20 goals and fourth with 45 points in 51 games. In his first season in 2005-06 he was ninth on the team with 29 points (12g-17a) in 36 games.

Callander played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire where he had 130 points (62g-68a) and 88 penalty minutes in 149 games from 2001-05. In his junior year, he was second on the team with 21 goals and fourth in scoring with 35 points in 41 games while helping UNH reach the NCAA Championship game. He led UNH as a senior with 25 goals and was second on the team with 54 points in 42 games. He played three seasons in the United States Hockey League where he had 132 points (66g-66a) and 170 penalty minutes in 139 games for Lincoln from 1998-2001.

On behalf of Preston Callander a case of pucks will be donated to Estero, Florida area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 18,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
