Silverthorn recalled and two former Steelheads will unite as Grizzlies to take on Idaho

BOISE, Idaho¾The Idaho Steelheads announced today that goaltender Steve Silverthorn has been recalled by its American League Hockey affiliate, the Iowa Stars, effective immediately.

Silverthorn, 26, is signed to an AHL contract and began the season in Iowa. He was loaned to Idaho on October 31st, recalled to Iowa on Dec. 17th and returned to Idaho on Dec. 22nd.

The 6-2 goalie started two games for the Stars this season where he had a .833 save percentage. In 19 games with the Steelheads, Silverthorn has compiled 8-9-2-2 record with two shutouts, a .914 save percentage and a 2.53 goals-against average.

The third-year pro Silverthorn was named the ECHL'S Kelly Cup Playoff MVP in 2007, helping Idaho claim its second ECHL championship in four seasons.

Idaho's head coach Derek Laxdal will name a replacement goaltender before Wednesday night's game versus Utah.

In other notes: Utah has today announced the signing of former Steelheads player Garett Bembridge who is returning from Europe and will join former Steelhead Scott Burt as a Grizzlie. Bembridge and Burt played together in Idaho during the 2005-06 season when Bembridge was voted an ECHL All-Star. Since playing in Idaho, Bembridge has played in the American Hockey League and Germany. The right wing was drafted twice by the NHL's New York Rangers in 1999 and by the Calgary Flames in 2001. Bembridge will play tomorrow night at Qwest Arena.
