
Steelheads Lead Pacific Division in Points Posting a 2-1-0 Record Through Opening Weekend

BOISE, Idaho - In a three-game season-opening series against the expansion Las Vegas Wranglers, the Steelheads posted 2-1-0 record to lead the ECHL's Pacific Division in the Western Conference through 10/20/03.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING: The Season Opener on October 17th, 2003 marked the first ECHL game for both the Idaho Steelheads and Las Vegas Wranglers (LV over IDH 5-3). The Steelheads are entering into their 7th season since the team's inception in 1997 (all six seasons had been played in the West Coast Hockey League). This is Las Vegas' inaugural season.
SEASON OPENERS: Idaho is 4-3 in home openers at the Bank of America Centre.

10/17/03: Las Vegas Wranglers 5 / Idaho Steelheads 3
The Idaho Steelheads lost 5-3 to the expansion Las Vegas Wranglers before a sold out Bank of America Centre. The loss marked the Steelheads first defeat in a home opener since 1999. Vegas' Greg Day recorded four points in the game (2G, 2A). Dan Ellis (5 GA, 23 SV); Marc Magliarditi (3 GA, 34 SV)
10/18/03: Idaho Steelheads 4 / Las Vegas Wranglers 3 (SOW)
The Idaho Steelheads recorded their first win of the season, defeating the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-3 in an exciting shootout finish. The Steelheads had the lead most of the game, but the Wranglers scored twice within a minute late in the third period to tie the game at three. The two teams skated to a scoreless five-minute sudden death overtime period, to drive the game to a shootout. Chris Gobert and Jan Kopecky scored for Idaho in the shootout. Ellis was perfect in net for Idaho, blocking all three Las Vegas attempts. Dan Ellis (3 GA, 24 SV); Brent Krahn (3 GA, 33 SV).
10/19/03: Idaho Steelheads 4 / Las Vegas Wranglers 1
The Steelheads beat the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 in Idaho's only afternoon game at the Bank of America Centre this season. The game wrapped up the three-game season-opening series. Idaho's Chris Marinucci recorded three points in the game, and scored the game-winning goal. Blair Allison (1 GA, 22 SV); Brent Krahn (4 GA, 32 SV).
STEELHEADS TOP THREE POINTS LEADERS: Chris Marinucci leads the pack scoring 6 points in 3 games played (3G, 3A). He is also fourth in the league in points. Marinucci, a former Hobey Baker Award winner in 1993-94 and IHL Man of the Year in 1998-99, played 26 games last season with the Steelheads before leaving for Sweden. In that time, he recorded 32 points; 12 goals and 20 assists. Next in line is newcomer Jan Kopecky who racked up 5 points in 3 games this past weekend, scoring 2 goals and 3 assists. The Czech native is playing his first professional season in North America this year. Derek Paget is third in scoring for Idaho with 3 points (2G, 1A). Paget is entering into his third season with the Steelheads this year, having accumulated 29 goals and 39 assists (68 pts) in 68 games played from 2001-03.

PRACTICES:
Steelheads will practice at the Bank of America Centre Tuesday and Wednesday of this week from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. They will skate Thursday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Idaho IceWorld before leaving for Las Vegas. All sessions are free and open to the public.
