LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Portland (10/15): Center Jerred Smithson had one goal and one assist in the Monarchs first win of the season. Defensemen Bryan Muir and Joe Rullier also scored for the Monarchs. Goaltender Mathieu Chouinard posted his first Monarchs win with 22 saves. vs. Springfield (10/17): The Monarchs erased a 3-0 deficit with right wing Pavel Rosa's goal 7:02 into the third period. Springfield, however, netted the game-winner 31 seconds later. Center Jerred Smithson and left wing Ryan Flinn also scored for the Monarchs. Matt Underhill replaced starter Mathieu Chouinard in goal to start the second period. He took the loss despite allowing just one goal on 13 shots over the last 40 minutes of the game. vs. Portland (10/18): The Monarchs lost in overtime despite outshooting Portland 43-28. Right wing Pavel Rosa scored the Monarchs only goal. He led the team with nine attempted shots. Goaltender Mathieu Chouinard stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced. vs. Hershey (10/19): Left wing Noah Clarke, defenseman Bryan Muir and right wing Pavel Rosa each had goals for the Monarchs. Defenseman Joe Rullier had two assists. Matt Underhill started the game in net and allowed four goals on 18 shoots over 27 minutes of work. He was replaced by goaltender Mathieu Chouinard, who stopped all seven shots he faced in just over 32 minutes of game time.

TEAM NOTES

The Monarchs are 0-for-25 on the power play over their last five games.

Pavel Rosa has scored a goal in three straight games, and he has scored a point in four straight games. Rosa led the Monarchs last season with a five-game goal streak, scoring six goals during the streak that lasted from March 14 to March 21, 2003.

The Monarchs have outshot their opponents in five of their six games this season, outgunned only by the Worcester IceCats on October 10. Their record when outshooting an opponent is 1-3-0-1. The Monarchs posted a 21-9-3-4 record when they outshot their opponents during the 2002-03 season.

The Monarchs have taken a lead into the third period only once in their first six games. They led the Portland Pirates 2-0 going into the third period on Wednesday, October 15. The Monarchs won that game by a score of 3-1.

The Monarchs have yet to score four goals in a game this season. The 2002-03 Monarchs scored four or more goals 29 times. The 2002-03 Monarchs posted a 27-0-1-1 record in games when they scored four or more goals.

A near capacity crowd of 9,214 fans watched on Sunday at the Verizon Wireless Arena as the Monarchs honored former Boston Bruins great Ray Bourque. Bourque, at the game to help the Bank of New Hampshire celebrate 200 years of service, dropped the ceremonial first puck. He also participated in first period intermission activities that raised $2,000 for the local Toys for Tots program. The Monarchs Care Foundation and Bank of New Hampshire each donated $1,000 on behalf of Bourque, who participated in an intermission shootout.
