Wheeling Nailers News Release
Player notes:
Jason Jaffray leads the team in scoring with 5 points and assists with 3. Jaffray and J.C. Ruid are tied for the team lead in goals with 2. The line of Jaffray, Ruid and J.F. Dufour have combined for 11 of the 22 total points scored by the Nailers team through the first two games. On Saturday, Martin Brochu recorded his first win for Wheeling since March 3, 1996 as a member of the Wheeling Thunderbirds.
Team notes:
The Nailers won their home opener for the second consecutive season and are 9-2-1 in home openers. The team also won the season opener for the first time since the 1998-99 season and are now 6-6-0 in season opening games. For the first time in the history of the Wheeling franchise, the team has started a season 2-0-0.

Roanoke 5 @ Wheeling 6
Jason Jaffray scored the first goal of the season, a power play goal, for the Nailers at 7:01 of the first period to give the team a 1-0 lead. J.F. Dufour and Brendon Hodge assisted on the goal. The Nailers increased their lead to 2-0 on a J.C. Ruid goal at 9:14 from Jaffray. Roanoke cut the Nailers lead in half to 2-1 on a power play goal at 14:06. Wheeling scored two more times in the first period to increase their lead to 4-1. T.J. Reynolds scored a power play goal from Eddie Pershin and Jake Ortmeyer at 15:11 and Jaffray added his second goal of the game at 16:03 from Ruid. In the second period the Express scored three goals in the first 5:46 to tie the game 4-4. Wheeling took the lead for good in the final minute of the second period on a goal by Pershin from Ortmeyer and Brandon Doria. Drew Fata increased the lead to 6-4 at 8:53 of the third period from Chris McNamara and Mark Kosick. Roanoke scored the final goal of the game at 9:29 of the third period to make the final score 6-5. Martin Brochu made 19 saves for the win as the Nailers out shot the Express 50-24.
Sunday, October 19
Long Beach 0 @ Wheeling 2
Wheeling completed their perfect opening weekend with their first shutout of the season. Wheeling and Long Beach skated to a scoreless tie through one period of play. In the second period the Nailers took a 1-0 lead on a J.F. Dufour power play goal at 12:37 from Jason Jaffray and Drew Fata. The final goal of the game was at 2:26 of the final period from J.C. Ruid. Dufour and Jaffray assisted on the score. Martin Brochu recorded the shutout by making 29 saves as the Nailers out shot the Ice Dogs 44-29.

Friday, October 24
Wheeling @ Peoria 8:05p.m.
Wheeling heads out on the road for the first time this season when they travel to Peoria. The Rivermen began the 2003-2004 season 1-0-1. Peoria won their first game of the season in Cincinnati 4-3 and lost at home on Saturday in a overtime against Toledo 2-1. The Nailers were 4-5-0 against the Rivermen last season and are 25-36-2 all-time against Peoria.

Wheeling @ Peoria 8:05p.m.
The Nailers end their first road trip of the season with their second consecutive game in Peoria against the Rivermen. The Nailers next game will be Halloween night in Reading.
Player of the Week
The Nailers Player of the Week is Jason Jaffray. Jaffray had five points on three goals, one power play, and two assists. He also played at a +2 in the +/- category.
Goaltender of the Week
The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Martin Brochu. Brochu recorded a win in both games last week for the Nailers, including a shutout on Sunday against Long Beach. He made 48 saves on 53 shots and had a goals against average of 2.50 and a save percentage of .906.
