
Bombers Tune Up for Two Games against Division Foes

BOMBERS TO TAKE ON CHIEFS, TACKLE CYCLONES IN REMATCH: The Dayton Bombers went 0-1 in an abbreviated week to start their 2003-2004 ECHL season, the first under Head Coach Jamie Ling. The Bombers will look to rebound with a pair of games Friday and Saturday of this week against Northern Division rivals Johnstown and Cincinnati. Below is a recap of this past week's Opening Night game:
10/18/03- Cincinnati 5 @ BOMBERS 3- John Cronin broke a 3-3 tie with a goal at the 11:48 mark of the third period to lift Cincinnati to its first win of the season. The Bombers fell despite a two-goal performance by sophomore Jason Deskins and a three-assist effort by rookie forward Janne Jokila. First-year player Chris Heisten scored the other Bombers' goal, while Josh Harrold, Michael Chin, Ryan Brindley, and and Brian Passmore also netted scores for the Cyclones. The Bombers lost despite outshooting Cincinnati 26-20.
BOMBERS' BITS: Of the 19 players on the Bombers' Opening Day Roster, ten are first year players ... Chris Heisten, a rookie out of the University of Maine, scored his first professional goal on a rebound during Saturday's game ... The Bombers have four players on their team who played their college hockey at Sacred Heart University (forwards Richard Naumann and Martin Paquet in addition to defenseman Les Hrapchak and Nick Nutcher) ... Forward Brad Ralph was named captain to start the season, while defensemen Alex Johnstone and Jason Crain were selected as alternates.

BOMBERS' UPCOMING GAMES:
Friday, October 24, 2003 vs. Johnstown Chiefs (7:00 p.m.)- The Bombers will face longtime divisional foe Johnstown in the first of nine head-to-head meetings, four of which will be at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. The Bombers were extremely successful against Johnstown in 2001-2002 (7-0-3 during the regular season and a three-game sweep during the playoffs) but were 2-6-1 against the Chiefs last season, including a 2-3 mark on home ice. 5000 Magnetic Schedules will be given away at this game, sponsored by Two Men & A Truck, Trane Heating & Air Conditioning, and TravelPlex. Also, the Bombers, as part of Haunted House Night celebrating the Halloween holiday, will have safe "Trick or Treating" on the Nutter Center concourse beginning at 5:00 p.m. In addition, 2,000 Columbus Blue Jackets Posters will be handed out.
Saturday, 10/25/2003 @ Cincinnati (7:30 p.m. game/ 7:15 p.m. broadcast time on www.daytonbombers.com- Media Center/Listen Live section- in association with www.broadcastmonsters.com)- The Bombers will hope to avenge a pre-season loss and this past Saturday's defeat to the Cyclones at this game played at the U.S. Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati. Last season, the Bombers were 3-7-1 against the Cyclones during the regular season but were 2-2-1 in Cincinnati, including a come-from-behind, 7-4 triumph on March 26 that featured goals from current Bombers' Head Coach Jamie Ling and current players Jason Crain and Lance Galbraith.
