LAST WEEK: Florence opened the regular season with an 0-2-1 record with regulation losses to Columbia and Florida, and an overtime loss to the Inferno. The Pride are in fourth place in the Southern Division, three points behind division leaders, Columbia, Florida and South Carolina.
Friday, October 17 @ Columbia Inferno 3 PRIDE 1
The Pride got off to a quick start, as Kyle Kidney scored the game's first goal just 3:03 into the opening period. Florence held that lead until the final minute of the second period, when Alexandre Burrows put a rebound past Pride netminder Dan Lombard, tying the game going into the final period. Columbia scored the game-winner at the 8:08 mark of the final period when Barrie Moore deflected a shot past Lombard. Chris Pittman added an insurance five minutes later to set the final.
Saturday, October 18 v. Columbia Inferno 4 PRIDE 3 (OT)
Florence trailed 3-0 in the final minute of the second period before coming to life. Shaun Sutter's first goal in a Pride sweater put the Pride on the board with 45 second remaining in the period. Just 16 seconds into the third, Nicolas Corbeil scored his first professional goal to bring the Pride within one, and they would tie it eight minutes in on a Ryan Knox slapper from the slot. It did not take long for the Inferno to win it in overtime as Barrie Moore slid a rebound past Lombard 18 seconds in to give Columbia the two points.
Sunday, October 19 v. Florida Everblades 8 PRIDE 4
Florida's Reggie Berg led the way as he scored two goals and added an assist in the Everblades' win. The line of Nicolas Corbeil, Victor Gervais and Malcolm MacMillan was the Pride's bright spot, as Corbeil had a goal and three assists; Gervais contributed a goal and two helpers, while MacMillan scored his first two professional goals.
THIS WEEKS' GAMES
Saturday, October 25 @ Augusta 7:30 p.m. Coverage at 7:10 on WDAR Sunny 105.5 FM
It's a light week for the Pride as they take to the ice only once. This is the first of six meetings on the year between the Pride and the Lynx. Last season, Florence was 6-2-1 against Augusta, and all-time holds a 27-9-3 mark against the Lynx.
PRIDE IN THE COMMUNITY
Thursday, October 23
Jason Metcalfe and Mark McRae will be at the Florence County Library to read to students and to give an equipment demonstration.
Monday, November 10
The Pride, Outback Steakhouse and Honda of South Carolina are teaming up for a golf tournament, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area. The tournament is at Governor's Run Golf Club in Lamar, with lunch served at 11:15, and a shotgun start at 12:30. Foursomes are filling up fast. PRIDE NOTES
- Over their last 10 head-to-head meetings with Columbia (regular season and playoffs), the Pride are 0-9-1and have been outscored 33-13.
- Several Pride rookies had impressive debuts last weekend. Among the highlights:
· Adam Stefishen had two assists in his first pro game on Saturday. He added another helper in Sunday's game against Florida.
· Nicolas Corbeil scored his first professional goal on Saturday, and then on Sunday was a part of all four Pride goals with one goal and three assists.
· Malcolm MacMillan scored the first two goals of his professional career in Sunday's loss to Florida. · Mark McRae was a +3 in Saturday's overtime loss to Columbia.
- The Pride have not scored a power-play goal yet this season, going 0-for-14 through the first three games. Florence has allowed at least one power-play goal against in each of the first three games, allowing four goals on 14 opportunities.
