WEEKLY SUMMARY: The Johnstown Chiefs (2-1-0; 4 PTS; T-1st Northern div.) had a solid week as they opened the 2003-04 season with a 2-1-0 record. Friday night the Chiefs fell on the road to Toledo, before picking up home wins Saturday and Sunday over Long Beach and Cincinnati respectively. This week the Chiefs will host the expansion Texas Wildcatters on Wednesday, before taking to the road Friday night when they travel to Dayton to take on the Bombers. The Chiefs are currently in a five way tie for first place in the Northern division with Reading, Toledo, Atlantic City, and Wheeling.
GAME #1 (10/17/03) Toledo 4 â JOHNSTOWN 1
Cavanagh 1st Pro goal
The Chiefs opened the 2003-04 season Friday night with a 4-1 loss at Toledo. The lone Johnstown goal came from rookie center Chad Cavanagh, with Jason Notermann assisting on the play. Chiefs goaltender David Currie made 22 saves for the loss. The Chiefs out shot Toledo 31-26.
GAME #2 (10/18/03) JOHNSTOWN 4 â Long Beach 1
Kelly Two Goals
Johnstown Chiefs goaltender Arturs Irbe stopped 26 of 27 Long Beach Ice Dogs shots in his first game since being assigned by the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, as the Chiefs cruised to a 4-1 win in front of a standing room only crowd of 4,011 Saturday night at the War Memorial. Brent Kelly scored two goals, while Jason Notermann and Chad Cavanagh each had a goal and an assist to lead the Chiefs to their first win of the season.
GAME #3 (10/19/03) JOHNSTOWN 6 â Cincinnati 1
Crane Three Assists
The Johnstown Chiefs picked up their second win in as many days as they defeated the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones 6-1, Sunday Afternoon at the War Memorial. Brent Kelly and P.L. Courchesne each had a pair of goals for the Chiefs while Dmitri Tarabrin and Shawn Mather also tallied. Ryan Crane had three assists. Mike Casselman scored the lone Cincinnati goal in the contest. Cory Campbell picked up the win making 24 saves in his first game in a Chiefs uniform. Cincinnati goaltender Tyler Masters made 15 saves in the contest.

Wednesday night, the Chiefs will host the expansion Texas Wildcatters (1-2-0; T-3rd West. Conf., Central Div.). This will be the only time the two teams face-off this season. The Wildcatters are coached by former NHL defenseman Robert Dirk.

Friday, the Chiefs will hit the road when they travel to face the Dayton Bombers (0-1-0; 0 PTS; Northern Div.). This is the first of nine games this season between the two teams. Last season, the Chiefs were 7-1-1 against the Bombers. The Bombers are now coached by former Dayton star Jamie Ling.
