Stars Fall to Rampage in Shootout 4-3

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Colton Sceviour tallied his AHL-leading 14th goal of the year as the Stars squandered a 2-0 lead, but then rallied late in the third period to salvage a point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the San Antonio Rampage Friday night in front of 5,687 fans at Cedar Park Center.

The Stars jumped out to an early lead just 68 seconds into the game when Maxime Fortunus fired a wrist shot from the point that beat goalie Jacob Markstrom. The captain's second goal of the year was assisted by Scott Glennie and Brett Ritchie. The rest of the first period was neck-and-neck, with both teams trading chances, and Texas holding a narrow edge in shots 13-10.

Colton Sceviour doubled the Texas lead when he banged home a loose puck thrown on goal by Travis Morin right as the Stars' power play had expired. It was an even strength goal, Sceviour's league-leading 14th goal of the year, and it gave the Stars a 2-0 lead at 7:42 of the period. San Antonio cut the lead in half when Eric Selleck took a rebound in the slot and fired a shot past Allen York, off the underside of the crossbar and in.

The Rampage started off the scoring in the third when Garrett Wilson redirected a shot from the point across the body of York to tie the game at two. San Antonio then took a 3-2 lead when Dylan Olsen's shot from the blueline went off Stars' defenseman William Wrenn and over a stranded York at 7:36. Rookie Brendan Ranford answered with the game-tying goal with less than five minutes to play when he took a beautiful cross-ice pass from Mike Hedden and sniped a wrist shot into the top left corner to make it 3-3 and force overtime.

Both goalies stood strong for the five-minute overtime, sending the game into a shootout, Texas' second in the last three games. After two scoreless rounds, Sceviour broke through and beat Markstrom to give the Stars the 1-0 advantage. With San Antonio facing a score-or-lose moment in the fifth round, Drew Shore beat York to extend the shootout into sudden death rounds. After several unsuccessful attempts from both sides, Jed Ortmeyer came through in the seventh round to give the Rampage the shootout victory.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 43-of-46 shots in regulation and overtime, and denied 6-of-7 shootout attempts to earn the win for San Antonio. Texas goaltender Allen York finished with 31 saves on 34 shots and turned aside 5-of-7 shootout chance, while taking the shootout loss. The Stars out-shot the Rampage 46-34 in the game and went 0-for-1 on the power play. San Antonio was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.

The Stars continue their current home stand with their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night on Saturday, November 23rd as they face the Toronto Marlies for a 7:00 p.m. face off at Cedar Park Center.
