
Devils Streak Halted Against Falcons

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Reid Boucher, Kelly Zajac and Tim Sestito each scored, but the Albany Devils were two goals shy, falling to the Springfield Falcons, 5-3, Friday at MassMutual Center. Entering the night, Albany, which was on a four game winning streak, and Springfield were tied for first place in the Northeast Division. The Devils move to 10-7-0-1, while the Falcons improve to 11-3-0-1.
Facing a 3-0 deficit early in the second period, Boucher got the Devils on the board at 3:00. Mike Sislo and Brandon Burlon assisted on the tally, which was Boucher's seventh of the season.
Before the period break, Zajac redirected a Stefan Matteau bid while on the power play at 16:31. Boucher picked up his second point on the night, assisting on the goal, which was Zajac's second of the year.
After Springfield's Jonathan Marchessault regained his team's two goal advantage with a power-play tally at 5:46 of the third, Sestito cashed in off a rebound at 12:05. Joe Whitney fed Reece Scarlett at the point; his shot was tipped by Sestito and then the Devils center followed up for his third goal. Whitney extended his scoring streak to four games, while Sestito moved his to three.
During the final seven minutes, the Devils could not find the equalizer before Springfield's Frederic St. Denis scored into an empty net at 19:23.
Marchessault led the Falcons with a pair of goals, including the game's first marker at 2:03 on the power play. Dalton Smith followed at 13:35 of the first and Ryan Craig made the score 3-0 17 ticks into the second.
Keith Kinkaid's six game winning streak came to an end. He finished with 18 saves. At the other end, Jeremy Smith earned his seventh win with 19 stops.
Albany, which was outshot 23-22, went 1-3 on the power play and 4-6 on the penalty kill.
The Devils travel to face the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center. The contest, which is slated for 7 pm, can be streamed on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio.
