Pirates Face Admirals for First Time Since 2011
November 22, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Norfolk, VA - The Portland Pirates, winners of 4 straight road games, will travel to Virginia for a two game series with the Norfolk Admirals. Puck drop is set for 7:30 for tonight's game, the first meeting between the two teams in 2 seasons.
The Pirates last played Sunday in Providence, defeating the Providence Bruins 4-3 in overtime in Providence. Louis Domingue made 43 saves, a career high, while Chris Brown, Tobias Rieder, and Brandon McMillan scored goals in regulation. Gilbert Brule extended his goal scoring streak to 4 games 1:43 into overtime to give the Pirates the victory. The win gave the Pirates a 5 game point scoring streak as well as extending their road winning streak to 4 games.
Norfolk last played in Manchester on Saturday, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Monarchs. The Admirals got goals from Chris Wagner and Antoine Laganiere, while John Gibson made 27 saves in the loss. The loss came at the end of a 3 game road trip that saw the Admirals go 1-2.
Key Bank Key to the Game
Brule on High: Pirates forward Gilbert Brule is on a 4 game goal scoring streak, the longest current streak in the AHL. The 26 year old forward is tied for the team lead in goals with Tobias Rieder. Brule's speed is his best asset, so look for the Pirates to send him on breakaways to extend their road win streak and his scoring streak both to 5 games.
The Pirates and Admirals have not met since January 25, 2011, when the Pirates were affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres and the Admirals were affiliated with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Pirates won that game 2-1 behind strong goaltending from current Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth. The Pirates and Admirals will face off 4 times this season, with the current two game series at Norfolk the only time the Pirates will visit the Scope this season.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 7:10 with Jeff Mannix.
