
P-Bruins Defeat Sound Tigers 4-3

Providence, R.I. - The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 in a shootout Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Tommy Cross, Craig Cunningham and Matt Lindblad scored in regulation, while Ryan Spooner and Alexander Khokhlachev scored in the shootout for the P-Bruins. Niklas Svedberg made 27 saves in net.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 2:04 mark of the second with a goal from Cross, his second of the season. Jared Knight and Alexander Fallstrom picked up the assists. The P-Bruins made it 2-0 on Cunningham's seventh goal of the season at the 12:41 mark. Matt Fraser and David Warsofsky assisted on the goal. Providence went into the second intermission leading 2-0.
Bridgeport came out of the gate strong to start the third period scoring twice in the first 38 seconds. Mike Halmo scored twenty seconds into the period, while on the power play, his seventh goal of the season. Calvin de Haan and Dallas Jackson recorded the assists. Only eighteen seconds later Kirill Kabanov tallied his second goal of the season with Johan Sundstrom and Jon Sim grabbing the assists. The Tigers took their first lead of the game with a power play goal at the 10:31 mark. Anders Lee scored his fifth goal of the season assisted by Ryan Strome and Jackson. The P-Bruins answered right back on Lindblad's power play goal at the 14:32 mark, assisted by Justin Florek and Warsofsky. The game went into overtime tied at three.
After a scoreless overtime the game went into a shootout. Both Spooner and Khokhlachev scored in the first two rounds for the P-Bruins, which was enough for Providence to take the victory as Svedberg stopped all four shots he faced in the shootout.
Svedberg stopped 27 of 30 shots for the P-Bruins, while Kenny Reiter made 42 saves for the Sound Tigers. Providence went 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 3:05pm against the Springfield Falcons.
