Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators extended its win streak to seven games tonight with a 6-2 road victory over the Adirondack Phantoms. Jean Gabriel-Pageau led the way offensively notching two of the B-Sens goals while adding an assist. Goaltender Nathan Lawson moved to 8-1-0 for the year with his fifth consecutive win.
Corey Cowick got things started for the B-Sens 10:24 into the opening period when he handled a rebound off Fredrick Claesson's shot beating Phantoms goaltender Yan Danis for his fourth score of the year. The teams did not manage many opportunities offensively the rest of the way with the score remaining 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. Lawson stopped all 11 shots faced during the period while Danis managed six saves on seven Binghamton chances.
The second period brought an offensive explosion from both squads. Cole Schneider extended the B-Sens lead to 2-0 just 1:25 into the middle frame off a beautiful feed from Mike Hoffman. The hosts drew within one 8:10 into the second when Tye McGinn beat Lawson off a Jason Akeson feed making it 2-1. Akeson found the back of the net just over six minutes later after receiving a pass from McGinn and burying it past Lawson making it 2-2. However, Binghamton responded with two unanswered goals of their own- the first from Hoffman at 16:25 before Pageau managed to beat Danis with under a minute to play in the period reclaiming their two-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
The final period started quick for Binghamton with Andre Petersson knocking home his fourth goal of the season off a backhanded shot at 1:20 of the third with Pageau and Shane Prince receiving the helpers making the score 5-2. The B-Sens put the game away with just under 11 minutes to play when Pageau added the B-Sens seventh league-leading shorthanded marker off a feed from Schneider. Lawson ended with 29 saves between the pipes while Danis stopped 25 of 31 shots in the losing effort.
Binghamton returns to action tomorrow for its first of two straight games versus the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center. Tomorrow's contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. with Sunday's tilt starting at 5:00 p.m.
