Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were repeatedly denied by the efforts of goalie Eddie Pasquale, who made 31 saves to lead the St. John's IceCaps to a 2-1 win at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins owned the early shot advantage and offensive pressure, but could not break through Pasquale until the 13:23 mark of the first. Jayson Megna skated into the St. John's zone and dished a perfect centering feed to his linemate Harry Zolnierczyk. Redirecting the pass into the top corner, Zolnierczyk scored his eighth goal of the season and put the Penguins up, 1-0.
St. John's would not waste much time getting back into the game. Only 2:44 later, Travis Ehrhardt ripped a one-timer past Jeff Deslauriers, tying the game at one goal apiece. The score remained knotted at one through most of the second period as Pasquale thwarted numerous quality chances for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Patrice Cormier gave the IceCaps their first lead of the game with 4:04 remaining in the period, toe-dragging the puck around the Penguins defense and stuffing it past Deslauriers.
Early in the third period with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on the power play, Tom Kostopoulos appeared to tie the score when he put a rebound to the top of the net, but the goal was waved off. An official review would confirm that Kostopoulos' shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced back into play.
A brief 5-on-3 advantage late in third for the Penguins would fail to net the equalizer as St. John's held on for the win. Deslauriers finished with 14 saves on 16 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins take the ice for the rematch against St. John's IceCaps on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:05 p.m. Catch the game on the Sports Hub 102 or on AHL Live.
