Chicago Wolves News Release
MILWAUKEE --- The Chicago Wolves fell to the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 in a shootout Friday night, seeing their five-game win streak broken in an Amtrak Rivalry game at the Bradley Center.
Right wing Cody Beach and center Pat Cannone tallied for the Wolves in regulation and right wing Ty Rattie was the only skater to score in the shootout. Goaltender Jake Allen stopped 29 of 31 shots in regulation and overtime and four of six attempts in the shootout.
Neither team tallied in the opening period, but Chicago (9-6-0-2) scored twice in the first six minutes of the second frame to open up 2-0 advantage on Milwaukee (9-4-3-1).
After sustained pressure on goal, the Wolves broke open the scoring at 3:20. Defenseman Brent Regner fired a shot from the point that was deflected by left wing Sergey Andronov. The puck was found at the side of the net by Beach, who tapped it past Milwaukee netminder Magnus Hellberg for his first goal of the season.
Cannone added to the lead minutes later. A Milwaukee miscommunication behind the net allowed right wing Tyler Shattock to pick up the puck and wrap around the side of the goal. Instead of attempting the score, Shattock sent a pass to Cannone, who beat Hellberg with a shot glove-side.
Hellberg (3-7-1) shut it down following Chicago's second goal, not allowing any markers in the second half of the game or overtime. He made 29 saves on the night.
Chicago's lead was cut in half at 12:08 when a Wolves drop pass was intercepted. Kevin Henderson was sprung on a breakaway near center ice and backhanded the puck through Allen's five-hole.
The Admirals tied the game early in the third period on a goal from Simon Moser. A shot caromed off the back wall at an odd angle to Moser near the faceoff circle, from where he sent a quick shot on net that beat Allen (8-3-2).
The shootout was a goaltender's duel as both netminders turned away four straight attempts after allowing first-round markers to Rattie and Mathieu Tousignant. Austin Watson broke the tie in the sixth round.
Chicago returns to Allstate Arena to face division rival and defending Calder Cup chamipion Grand Rapids at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
