
Grand Rapids Sneaks Past Iowa 2-1

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Wild (6-9-0-0, 12 points) were defeated by the Grand Rapids (12-4-1-1, 26 points) 2-1 in front of 7,580 fans at the Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Forward Tomas Jurco and defenseman Xavier Ouellet scored 2:03 apart late in the second period, helping the Griffins hand the Wild its fourth straight loss, sixth straight at home. Grand Rapids goalie Petr Mrazek (6-2-1) stopped 31 Iowa shots, holding Iowa off the scoreboard for the games first 59:17. Wild forward Brett Bulmer scored the team's lone goal, ending a goalless drought of 146:09 for the club. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (3-2-0) stopped 20 Grand Rapids shots in defeat.
After a scoreless first period, the Griffins opened the scoring at 16:13 of the second period with a goal by Tomas Jurco. The Grand Rapids winger beat Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson with a wrist shot from the high slot. Defenseman Brennan Evans set up Jurco's 10th goal of the season. Just 2:03 later, defenseman Xavier Ouellet made it a 2-0 game with a shot from the point. Forwards Jeff Hoggan and Riley Sheahan each picked up an assist on the play at 18:16.
In the third, Iowa winger Brett Bulmer fired a wrist shot past Petr Mrazek with 33 seconds remaining in the game. Bulmer's team-leading fifth goal of the season trimmed the deficit to 2-1. Forwards Stephane Veilleux and Tyler Graovac each had an assist on the game's final goal at 19:17.
The Wild concludes its homestand with Abbotsford on Nov. 23 at 7:05 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 5:05 p.m. Saturday night is Veterans Appreciation Night and there is a Helmets to Hardhats Auction.
