Checkers Acquire Former All-Star Philippe Cornet from San Antonio

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today the team has acquired former AHL All-Star forward Philippe Cornet from the San Antonio Rampage in exchange for rookie forward Adam Brace.

Cornet, 23, has 94 points (46g, 48a) in 177 career AHL games with Oklahoma City and San Antonio. In 2011-12, he led the Barons with 24 goals and posted a career-high 37 points, earning a spot in the 2012 AHL All-Star Game.

The native of Val-Senneville, Quebec, was originally drafted by Edmonton in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and skated in two NHL games with the Oilers, picking up one assist.

Prior to turning pro in 2010, Cornet recorded 224 points (87g, 137a) in 235 games with Rimouski and Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL. Cornet will join the Checkers in Charlotte for their game Saturday against Rockford.

The Checkers host the Rockford IceHogs for a two game set Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (1:30 p.m.) at Time Warner Cable Arena.
