Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Travis Ewanyk scored his first two professional goals and Anton Lander added two more as the Oklahoma City Barons broke open a close game with four third-period goals in a 6-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

The same two teams, who combined for 118 penalty minutes on Thursday, will meet again on Friday at 6:30 pm CST.

Oklahoma City set season highs for goals in a period (four in the third), margin of victory and goals in a game in improving to 8-8-0-2 and snapping a three-game road winless streak. Lake Erie had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped in falling to 8-7-0-1.

Barons goaltender Laurent Brossoit (1-1-0) survived an early onslaught of shots, as Lake Erie out-shot Oklahoma City in the first period 18-6, to earn his first AHL win. Monsters starter Calvin Pickard (5-5-1) allowed the first five goals and took the loss.

The Barons broke open a 2-1 game with three goals in the first 3:32 of the third period.

Ewanyk opened the scoring with his first professional goal and point at 3:09 of the first period, taking an on-target headman pass from Denis Grebeshkov, swooping in from the left side and backhanding one past Calvin Pickard.

Lake Erie tied the score in a two-man advantage at 6:06 of the second, as Edmonton native Colin Smith banged one in from the side of the net.

The Barons regained the lead on a power play of their own as Taylor Fedun sent a high wrister over the glove side of Pickard, with assists from Derek Nesbitt and Linus Omark at 7:57.

The third period began with a two-man Barons power play and Lander cashed in with a rebound from the left circle at :33, from Ryan Hamilton and Omark. Lander added an even-strength tally 32 seconds later, going top shelf on an assist by Taylor Fedun, who had a goal and two assists. Ewanyk's second of the night at 3:22, a glove-side wrist shot, was also set up by Fedun.

Ryan Hamilton concluded the scoring at 9:31 on a tip from Grebeshkov and Hunt.

Brossoit stopped 36 of 37 shots. Pickard made 16 saves on 21 shots and Sami Aittokallio stopped eight of nine.

Oklahoma City 3-for-8 on the power play, while Lake Erie was 1-for-8.
