Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, announced Saturday that the American Hockey League's Utica Comets recalled forward Tanner Sorenson.
Sorenson, 26, had four points (2 goals, 2 assists) last night in Kalamazoo's 7-3 win over the Indy Fuel at Wings Event Center. The Anchorage, Alaska native signed his first AHL contract with Utica last spring after posting 64 points (22 goals, 42 assists) in 55 games for the K-Wings. He played in two AHL games for the Comets after his first call-up back on Nov. 16 and recorded his first assist in his AHL debut Nov. 27 against Syracuse. Sorenson had 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists) in 13 games for Kalamazoo this season.
Earlier this week, Vancouver reassigned forward David Pope from Utica to Kalamazoo in a separate transaction. Also available for the K-Wings, who face the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:00 p.m. tonight at Wings Event Center, is veteran forward Garret Ross, who finished serving a three-game suspension after Kalamazoo acquired him in a trade with the Jacksonville Icemen on Dec. 19.
Kalamazoo is celebrating its Affiliate Night tonight at Wings Event Center by wearing special jerseys honoring its affiliation with Vancouver and Utica that were designed by Kurt Gorecki, the winner of the Wings' 3rd Annual Fan-Designed Jersey Contest. The player-worn jerseys will be auctioned live in the arena following the game.
