Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Orlando Solar Bears (3-1-1-0), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, could not sustain a two-goal lead as they fell to the Elmira Jackals (3-3-0-0) by a 4-3 score in overtime in front of 2,633 fans on Friday night at First Arena.
Eric Faille opened the scoring for Orlando at 11:24 of the first period when he took a feed from the slot by Brett Findlay and snuck a shot past Sam Marotta.
The Jackals drew level early in the second period when Mike Seidel tallied just 50 seconds into the frame to beat Rob Madore.
A series of chances with the man advantage allowed the Solar Bears to take a two-goal edge as Johnny McInnis tipped home a power-play goal at 6:47, and Lindsay Sparks buried his first of the season at 8:48.
The Jackals would rally in the third, as Tyler Currier scored at 1:41, and Justin Hohmann tied the score at 11:30.
In overtime, the Solar Bears would get another power play, but Joe Houk would spring Colin Jacobs for a shorthanded breakaway to win the game at 1:41.
Madore took the loss with 38 saves on 42 shots; Marotta earned the win with 30 stops on 33 shots against.
