October 30, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Cincinnati Cyclones (2-1-0-0) fell to the Kalamazoo Wings, 3-1, on Friday night in Kalamazoo. Defenseman Garrett Noonan scored the lone goal for the Cyclones, who drop their first game of the season.
The tone was set early on, as just 1:02 into the first, Cyclones forward Jaynen Rissling, and Kalamazoo defenseman Ben Wilson dropped the gloves. The two teams continued the physical play in the first, however the Wings took a 1-0 lead 12:52 into the period, on a goal from forward Justin Taylor.
Kalamazoo's lead held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second, the Cyclones found the scoresheet at the 9:07 mark, when Noonan took a shot from the point through heavy traffic that beat Kalamazoo netminder Joel Martin, tying the game, 1-1.
Kalamazoo retook the lead roughly eight minutes later while on the power play, when defenseman Adam Phillips beat Cyclones goaltender Brandon Whitney, putting the Wings up, 2-1, through 40 minutes.
The third period was largely controlled by the Cyclones, as they outshot the Wings, 17-4 in the frame. Cincinnati had a lot of good looks on net early in the period, but Kalamazoo tacked on one more at the 10:51 mark of the period from forward Lane Scheidl, to give Kalamazoo a 3-1 lead.
Cincinnati continued to get the better of the play down the stretch, however Martin was stellar, stopping 33-of-the-34 shots he faced to seal the 3-1 win for Kalamazoo.
Cincinnati outshot Kalamazoo, 34-27, on the night, while the power play was held scoreless on all four of its opportunities. The Cyclones wraps up their two-game road trip on Saturday night in Ft. Wayne against the Komets. Faceoff is slated for 7:30pm.
