Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - October 30, 2015 - Colin Jacobs capped off the Jackals comeback tonight at First Arena with a shorthanded breakaway goal in overtime to send the Jackals to a 4-3 win over the Orlando Solar Bears.

The first period opened with a fast pace between the Jackals and Solar Bears, however to the home crowd's dismay, the road squad scored first. Eric Faille capitalized for his fourth goal of the season at 11:24 of the opening frame as Brett Findlay and Eric Baier earned the assists. As the first period drew on tension rose and boiled over as Brenden Miller cross-checked Mike Seidel and Taylor Stefishen came in to defend his teammate and tangle with Miller.

The Jackals carried over a power-play into the second period, but lost it just 27 seconds in as Scott Jacklin was whistled for hooking. However, Mike Seidel took advantage of the open ice as he forced a turnover deep in the Orlando end and accepted a feed from Chris Langkow in the slot then deposited it past Rob Madore to even the game 1-1 just 50 seconds into the period. Orlando would respond at 6:47 as Johnny McInnis redirected a point shot home on the power-play to regain the lead for the Solar Bears. Erik Bradford and Eric Baier assisted McInnis' second of the season. The Solar Bears would score again on the man advantage just two minutes later as Lindsay Sparks buried a backdoor feed from Brady Vail on a nice passing play started by Eric Baier. Immediately following the goal, player/assistant coach and captain Nathan Oystrick dropped the gloves with Zach Bell at center ice to pull some momentum back in the Jackals direction.

The Jackals found themselves in a familiar position for the second consecutive game as they trailed by two goals heading into the third period. This time they would be the team to score early in the frame as Tyler Currier, who was making his Jackals debut against his former squad, buried a feed from Justin Bernhardt out of the corner to cut the deficit to one at 1:41. The red-hot Cason Hohmann would follow at 11:30 with a breakaway goal to tie the game and ignite the home crowd. Hohmann's goal was his seventh point in the last three games as Nick Zappia earned the assist on the marker.

Sixty minutes would not be enough as the game would head to a three-on-three overtime for the first time in Jackals history. Just 27 seconds into the overtime period Taylor Stefishen was whistled for hooking, putting the Jackals on a four-on-three penalty kill. But, they would not be denied of the comeback as Colin Jacobs took a centering feed from Joe Houk and broke in on the breakaway ripping the shorthanded game-winner past Madore and propelling the Jackals to an exciting victory.

Sam Marotta earned the win with 30 saves on 33 shots faced while Rob Madore was saddled with the loss, allowing four goals on 42 shots.
