(Witchita, KS) - The Colorado Eagles fell to the Wichita Thunder 5-2 at the Intrust Bank Arena on Friday night in the first game of a two-game set.

Wichita got off to an early lead just 18 seconds into the first period as former Eagle Todd Fiddler fired home a rebound in front of the net to make it 1-0 Wichita. Trent Daavettila evened the score for Colorado, burying an unassisted goal off a loose puck between the circles at the 12:42 mark.

The Thunder regained the lead, scoring back-to-back goals to close out the period. Ian Lowe stuffed home a rebound on top of the crease on the power play at the 15:19 mark to make it 2-1 Thunder. Then with 3:19 to play Brandon Martell took a shot from the blue line and placed the puck past Colorado goaltender Jacob DeSerres to extend the Wichita lead to 3-1.

Dalton Reum scored the lone goal of the second period from the point, giving Wichita a 4-1 lead at the ten minute mark of the middle frame.

Early in the third period, Wichita grew their lead to 5-1 with a goal off the stick of rookie Mason Baptista, who roofed the puck past DeSerres from the side of the net. Patrick D'Amico would give the Eagles some offense late in the contest, scoring his first professional goal on the backhand with just three seconds remaining, but the Thunder held on for the 5-2 win.
