October 30, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
TULSA, OK - The Missouri Mavericks took one point away from their Friday night matchup against the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. The Mavericks battled through a close sixty minutes of regulation, an additional five minutes of three-on-three overtime hockey, and a five-round shootout before they fell 4-3 to the Oilers in their first loss since the season-opener.
Goaltender Josh Robinson was credited with twenty-four (24) saves through sixty-five (65) minutes in goal for the Mavericks. His record moves to 3-0-0-1 with the shootout loss.
The Oilers climbed onto the board first in the opening frame, with Brandon Wong scoring a power-play goal for the home team, assisted by Darian Dziurzynski and Ben Walker at 15:57.
Tulsa then doubled their lead 2-0 over the Mavericks when Dennis Brown scored with the help of Brady Ramsay and Matt Konan at 8:59. Missouri answered back just under two minutes later when Jesse Root found a way to the back of the net past Jussi Olkinuora at 10:55 on a Mavs man-advantage. Bryce Aneloski and Tyler Barnes assisted on the power-play drive.
Then Andrew Courtney snuck the puck over the line for another Mavs tally at 12:17 with the help of Carter Verhaeghe and Rocco Carzo to tie the game up 2-2 in the second period.
The Oilers kept a perfect home record power play, scoring again on their second power-play of the evening, just 1:14 into the third period. Dziurzynski made the play with the help of Walker and Wong to take back the lead 3-2 for Tulsa. The home team did not get to celebrate their lead for long, as Jesse Root, making his second notch on the scoreboard of the night for Missouri, scored at 5:50 aided by Barnes.
All tied up at 3-3 when the final horn sounded, the game decision moved to overtime. Both teams battled through an exciting five minutes of three-on-three hockey, but no winner was determined in the sudden-death situation. After three standard shootout rounds with no winner, extra rounds were taken until Brandon Wong scored the lone shootout goal over Robinson for a 4-3 Oilers victory.
The Mavericks collect one (1) point in their first road game this weekend. Missouri travels to Allen, TX tomorrow evening to take on the Allen Americans for the first time in the 2015-16 season. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05p.m. (CT) at the Allen Events Center.
The Mavericks play their next home game on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:05p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. Fans are encouraged to download the Mavericks new mobile app update for free on their apple and android devices to listen to all the action live on game-day.
