Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Alexis Loiseau scored two goals and the shootout game-winner as the Norfolk Admirals escaped with a 3-2 win Friday night over the Quad City Mallards at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The Admirals were first on the board when Alexis Loiseau tallied his first professional goal. Marco Roy gained control of the puck in Quad City's defensive zone and passed to Greg Chase along the right wall near the hash marks. Chase then moved near the corner before feeding Loiseau in the slot, who hit the puck into Mallards goaltender Steve Michalek's net at 12:44. This marked a five-game point streak for Chase.
After a power-play opportunity ended in the second period for Norfolk, Loiseau scored his second goal of the night and gave the Admirals a 2-0 lead at 6:28. Loiseau attempted a pass to Roy across the crease, but Quad City defenseman Alex Gudbranson blocked it, sending the loose puck back to Loiseau. A one-timed effort from Loiseau between Michalek and the near post increased the lead to 2-0. This marked Loiseau's first two-goal game as a professional.
Quad City stepped up during the last five minutes with 29 seconds left on a power play. Quad City's Collin Valcourt's shot bounced off Norfolk's netminder Ty Rimmer's stick and Mallard forward Olivier Archambault was right there to knock in the deflection at 14:59. With just a minute left in regulation time, Mallard defensemen Guillaume Gelinas tied it up making it a 2-2 game.
After five minutes of overtime, the teams were forced to go into a shootout. Rimmer saved the first shot for Quad City, then Admiral Steven Whitney beat Michalek to put Norfolk up, 1-0, in the shootout. The Mallards' Anthony Collins answered, then Loiseau capped off a sensational night when he ended the game on the Admirals second shootout attempt. Loiseau finished the game with two regulation goals and one goal during the shootout.
The Admirals have the day off tomorrow in order to prepare to take on the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at home, exactly a week from today at 7:30 p.m.
