Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Carl Sneep and Ben Street recorded goals and Brad Thiessen made 22 saves as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins shutout the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 2-0 at Webster Bank Arena on Friday night. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton improves their league-best record to 39-14-0-0. The Sound Tigers fall to 19-26-3-3.

The Penguins jumped on top midway through the first period. After the initial shot from the right circle was blocked, Carl Sneep found the loose puck in the slot and fired it past Joel Martin for his fourth goal of the season to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1-0 lead. The Sound Tigers mustered six shots on net but Penguins netminder Brad Theissen stopped them all, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton held their one-goal lead heading to the second period.

Ben Street increased the Penguins lead to two. Chris Collins' shot in front was initially stopped by Martin, but Street found the rebound and lifted it over Martin to put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead 2-0. The Sound Tigers had some quality chances during a power play following Jesse Boulerice's slashing penalty at 12:01, but Thiessen stood strong between the pipes as the Sound Tigers trailed by two after 40 minutes.

The third period saw chances on both sides, but a shorthanded Sound Tigers lineup was unable to beat Thiessen on this evening. Head Coach Pat Bingham pulled Martin in the final minute, but the Penguins held on for the 2-0 win. Joel Martin made 25 saves in the loss. The Sound Tigers return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Manchester to face the Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena at 7 p.m.
