Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
amilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Connecticut Whale 3-2 on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. Connecticut scored with a minute and 13 seconds left in the game to secure the win and give the âDogs their third straight loss.
The Whale opened the scoring 10 seconds into the game. Dale Weise received the puck from Brodie Dupont and skated down the right side of the ice, carrying the puck into the âDogs zone. Weise wristed a shot that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford over the glove and went into the top of the net.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 at 1:33 of the first frame. Brett Festerling sent a pass across the blue line to Frederic St. Denis, who blasted a one-timer shot towards the net. The puck sailed through traffic and past Connecticut starting goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris.
Dupont scored a power-play goal at 3:22 to give the Whale a 2-1 lead. Weise dished the puck across the ice to Kris Newbury, who then fed the puck to the left side of the net. Dupont tapped the puck past Sanford and into the back of the net.
The âDogs tied the game 2-2 at 4:33 of the final frame. Ryan Russell stripped the puck off a Connecticut player before racing in alone on a breakaway. Russell used a forehand-to-backhand deke before depositing the puck behind Grumet-Morris and into the net.
The Whale took the lead at 18:47 of the third period. Tim Kennedy skated down the right wing and took a low shot towards the net. The shot bounced off the stick of Devin DiDomete and trickled past Sanford and across the goal line.
