Bears Edge Bruins 4-3 Friday
February 11, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The BEARS completed a two-game New England sweep for the week, defeating the Providence Bruins 4-3 Friday at Dunkin Donuts Center. The win, coupled with Wednesday's victory over Manchester, gave HERSHEY four points out of four to begin the week, and also gave the club standings points in 11 straight games.
Boyd Kane opened the scoring Friday with his 15th goal of the year just 4:14 into the first period, which was quickly followed at the 6:52 mark by Kyle Greentree's 20th goal of the campaign. Up 2-0 late in the first, Providence got on the board against HERSHEY goaltender Jared DeMichiel. Making his first AHL start in the game, DeMichiel allowed his first AHL goal to Maxime Sauve at 13:53 of the first period, but allowed nothing else in the first 20 minutes on nine Bruins shots. HERSHEY took a 2-1 lead to first intermission.
Trevor Bruess left the game injured in the first period at the 11:20 mark after a fight with Providence's Antoine Roussel. Bruess suffered a lower body injury as he fell to the ice, and is listed as week-to-week pending further evaluation back in Hershey.
Kane opened up the second period by potting his second of the game and 16thof the season at 6:03, but rugged forward Brian McGrattan would again push the Bruins within one with a goal at 8:52. With Kane in the penalty box for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at 18:57, Aucoin would score a short-handed goal with just 5.5 seconds left in the second. The goal gave HERSHEY a 4-2 lead after two periods. Providence would score the only goal of the third period, a strike from Kirk MacDonald at 6:43, but the home team could draw no closer. DeMichiel made 28 saves to earn his first AHL win, and the BEARS won its 10th game in its last 11.
BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game:
1. Keith Aucoin (Short-handed game-winner, two assists)
2. Boyd Kane (Two goals)
3. Jared DeMichiel (First AHL win)
Notes: With an assist on Kane's first period goal, Aucoin extended his personal points streak to 13 straight games. Greentree becomes the third HERSHEY player (Gordon, Willsie) to reach the 20-goal plateau this season. DeMichiel becomes the fifth different BEARS goalie to record a victory in 2010-11 for the Chocolate and White. HERSHEY has not lost a game in regulation since January 16 at Binghamton. The Senators come to Giant Center Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
