
Pirates Topple the Monarchs

MANCHESTER, NH - T.J. Brennan scored a goal and two assists and Jhonas Enroth turned aside 35 shots to lead the Portland Pirates to a 3-1 win over the Manchester Monarchs in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,182 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Mark Mancari and Luke Adam also scored for the Pirates while Marc-Andre Gragnani collected a pair of assists. The Pirates improved to 31-15-4-1 with the win and moved to within one point of Manchester for first in the Atlantic Division.
Jordan Nolan scored the lone goal for the Monarchs, who dropped to 31-17-1-5 on the season.
Mancari netted the lone goal of the opening period, his 29th of the season to match a career high established in 2008-09, to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead after one. Nolan got the Monarchs back on even terms midway through the second on the power play before Brennan restored the Pirates one-goal advantage late in the period to send Portland into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead. Adam connected on a power-play midway through the third to complete the scoring.
The Monarchs out shot the Pirates 36-23 as Enroth posted his 15th victory of the season.

Portland completes weekend action Sunday with a 3 p.m. game in Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers. The game can be heard live on 95.5 News Talk WLOB or on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 2:45 p.m.
The Pirates will be back in action at the Civic Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against the Providence Bruins.
