Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Goaltender Mike Smith stopped all 29 shots he faced to lead the Norfolk Admirals (26-15-8-3) to a 3-0 victory over the Syracuse Crunch (18-27-2-4) on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams square off again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m.
Chris Durno, Troy Milam and Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored for the Admirals. Mattias Ritola registered a pair of assists in his Norfolk debut.
Norfolk opened scoring while skating shorthanded 6:32 into the contest. Durno picked the pocket of a Crunch attacker at the right point of the Syracuse zone. He broke in alone on goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur and sent a shot over Levasseur's right shoulder for his fourteenth goal of the season.
The Admirals doubled their lead with a five-on-three power play goal late in the second period. Ritola earned his first point as an Admiral by sending the puck from the bottom of the right circle toward the right point. Milam one-timed the puck through a screen and past Levasseur at 18:14 for his ninth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
Pouliot closed out scoring with exactly six minutes remaining in the third period. Ritola sent a feed from the right faceoff circle toward the crease. Pouliot redirected the puck past Levasseur for his fourteenth goal of the season.
Mike Smith (29 shots, 29 saves) earned the shutout victory. Jean-Philippe Levasseur (35 shots, 32 saves) took the loss.
Norfolk was 1-7 on the power play. Syracuse was 0-6
