Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans fell to the Binghamton Senators 3-0 tonight at The Blue Cross Arena, marking the second straight game the Amerks were shutout on home ice this season. The last time Rochester managed to be shutout consecutively was February 22nd and February 24th during the 2007-08 season following back-to-back 4-0 setbacks to Binghamton and Houston, respectively, both of which were also at home. The Amerks, who fall to 21-26-3-2, have been held to only one goal in their last three games and have now lost three straight. The B-Sens were improved to a 26-20-3-3 record in the victory.

The Senators' netminder Barry Brust protected the lead for Binghamton the whole night, earning the shutout and blocking all 36 of the Americans' shots. Brust picked up his 18th win of the season, in addition to his league-leading sixth shutout, and was also designated as the top star in the contest. Cody Bass (1+0), who earned the second star, Erik Condra (1+0) and Corey Locke (1+0) all picked up goals tonight, with both Condra and Locke netting their team-leading 17th goals on the season. Craig Schira (0+1) also contributed an assist tonight, picking up the third star of the game.

Amerks' goaltender Tyler Plante, who got his second straight start in place of injured Jacob Markstrom, saved 21 of 23 shots in the losing record, falling to 5-9-1.

Bass struck first for Binghamton with less than a minute remaining in the first frame. After Colin Greening dished a centering pass to the front of the Rochester net, Bass tipped the puck over Plante's shoulder to put the Senators up by one. David Dziurzynski also picked up a helper on the play.

It took less than 30 seconds into the second period for Binghamton to jump ahead to a two-point lead. Schira grabbed the puck in the neutral zone and sent it to Roman Wick who took the initial shot from the left face-off circle. Plante was able to come up with the initial save, but was not able to hang on to the puck which ended up on the stick of Condra, who capitalized on the play from the opposite side of the net. The goal was the winger's 17th of the year.

The third tally of the night came on an empty netter with less than a minute left in the game. Locke dumped the puck in Rochester's vacant net at 19:35 to extend the lead to 3-0. Keller picked up his 27th point of the season, assisting on the play.

The Amerks head north of the border on Saturday, February 12th for a 4:00 p.m. matinee with the North Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum. Fans can tune in for all the live action on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
