Texas Stars News Release
Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (13-8-0-1, 27 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (16-6-1-0, 33 points) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 5,976 fans on Friday night at Cedar Park Center. Former Texas Stars goalie Matt Climie (10-4-0) stopped 26 of 27 shots in regulation and all four attempts in the shootout to preserve the Rampage win. Rampage winger Brett MacLean scored the only San Antonio goal in regulation, helping the Rampage end a three-game winless skid against Texas. Stars left wing Fabian Brunnstrom scored the only Texas goal of the night, as the Stars earned a point in their first shootout loss of the season. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (8-3-1) stopped 30 of 31 shots in regulation and one of three attempts for his first shootout loss of the year. The Stars host the Houston Aeros on Saturday at 7:00 pm at Cedar Park Center.
The Stars started the scoring early with a power-play goal by left wing Fabian Brunnstrom at 6:59 of the first period. Defenseman Philip Larsen found Brunnstrom in the crease for his fifth goal of the year. Center Travis Morin added an assist on the goal, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. The Rampage countered with only 1:19 left in the first period with a goal by forward Brett MacLean. Center Andrew Ebbett and defenseman Chris Summers picked up a rebound on the game-tying goal. MacLean's tenth of the season was also his 61st with the Rampage, moving him to the top of the team's all-time goal scoring list.
After two scoreless periods and overtime, the teams skated to a shootout. Texas was scoreless on four attempts, as Rampage goalie Matt Climie stuffed every Stars attempt. San Antonio forwards Mikkel Boedker and Mathieu Beaudoin both tallied for the Rampage win.
Prior to the game, the Dallas Stars announced that they have recalled Texas Stars center Aaron Gagnon.
Gagnon, 24, appeared in 20 games for Texas this season, scoring five goals and four assists for nine points with six penalty minutes. He was recalled by Dallas on October 17 and appeared in one game at Tampa Bay. He was assigned back to Texas the following day. Gagnon signed as a free agent with Dallas on February 2, 2007.
The Stars continue their seven-game home stand against the Houston Aeros on December 4th at 7:00 pm. Every Saturday, fans may purchase the State Farm Family Four Pack, 4 tickets, 4 sodas, 4 hot dogs for $44. Also, the first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars scarf compliments of Sweet Leaf Tea. The Stars will then host the Manitoba Moose on Tuesday, December 7th at 7:30 pm. Every Tuesday, fans may bring any non-perishable H-E-B food item to receive a $5.00 discount off their ticket price.
