CLEVELAND---The Chicago Wolves staged a third-period rally, but it wasn't enough as they fell 6-3 to the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena Friday night.

Center Ryan Garbutt and defensemen Paul Postma and Jaime Sifers scored for Chicago (11-13-1-0), which was playing in the first contest of a three-games-in-three-days road swing. Left wing Patrick Rissmiller, who began the season with the Wolves, potted four goals and five points for Lake Erie.

The Wolves opened scoring at 3:28 of the first period when center Garbutt redirected defenseman Arturs Kulda's wrist shot from the point past Lake Erie goaltender John Grahame.

Lake Erie (12-9-2-2) responded to make the score 1-1 when right wing Matthew Ford knocked the rebound from center Mark Olver's long shot past Chicago netminder Peter Mannino at 7:52 of the first period.

The Monsters pulled ahead, 2-1, when Olver stole the puck along the boards behind the net, wrapped around and sent a pass to center Patrick Rissmiller to bang back into the empty left corner of the net at 10:47 of the first frame.

Rissmiller scored on the power play to make the score 3-1, 3:55 into the second period when he fired a shot from the right faceoff circle past Mannino, stick side.

Lake Erie took a three-goal lead, 4-1, 10:54 into the middle frame when Rissmiller dug out the puck in the crease and roofed it over Mannino to complete a natural hat trick.

Mannino (6-4-0) kicked out 19 shots overall in the loss.

Center Ben Walter's shot from the blueline through traffic into side of the net made the Monsters lead 5-1, 8:11 into the last period.

Chicago finally answered the five unanswered goals with a power-play tally when Postma fired a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle past Grahame, glove side, making the score 5-2, 10:18 into the third period.

Grahame (3-3-1) recorded 33 saves for the Monsters.

The Wolves closed the gap to 5-3 when center Jason Krog slipped a pass to Sifers, whose shot from the slot found the back of the net at 16:46 into the last frame.

The Monsters closed scoring with a shorthanded marker, 6-3, 19:22 into the final frame when Rissmiller threw the puck down the ice and into an empty net.

The Wolves travel to Canada for a matchup with the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum on Saturday at 3 p.m.
