
Admirals Drop 5-2 Decision to Grand Rapids

Milwaukee, WI-The Milwaukee Admirals surrendered four consecutive goals in the first and second period as the dropped a 5-2 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins Friday night at the Bradley Center. The loss was the first in regulation for the Admirals at home this season.
Tomas Tatar had two goals and an assist for Grand Rapids, while Joey MacDonald 26 of 28 shots to earn the win in his first start since being reassigned by Detroit earlier this week.
The Admirals actually took a brief lead as Mike Bartlett scored his second goal in as many games to give the Admirals a 1-0 advantage at 4:06 of the first period. Gabriel Bourque and two Grand Rapids defenseman were battling for the puck at the Griffins blue line and Bourque came away with it, while Bartlett snuck past them and had a breakaway before sliding a backhand past Joey MacDonald.
The Griffins tied the score on a power-play when Tomas Tater picked up his fifth goal of the off a rebound of a Brendan Smith shot at 8:22. Less three minutes later Cory Emmerton put Grand Rapids up 2-1 after he fired a one-timer from the slot at the 11:10 mark of the period.
The two teams combined for 26 shots in the first period with the Griffins outshooting the Admirals 17-9.
Grand Rapids pumped their lead to three with goals by Tatar and Ilari Filpula in the first 6:38 of the second period, which prompted a goalie change for Milwaukee with Chet Pickard replacing Smith in net.
The Admirals made it 4-2 when Chris Mueller picked up the rebound of Brett Palin's shot and flipped it over MacDonald for his 11th of the year at 12:17. Dan Gendur also assisted on the play, his first point as an Admiral.
Milwaukee had their chances to get back in the game during the third period, including three power-plays, but MacDonald was up to the task.
The Admirals head to Peoria on Sunday afternoon and aren't back home until Saturday, December 11th when they host Texas at 7:30 pm.
